The building is an old olive press, built by the friars of the Order of Santiago, of the Palmela Castle, at the end of the XVII century. It was restored in 2012 under the LEADER project “Arrabidine – the mythical liqueur of Arrábida” (Community initiative promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Regional Planning and co-financed by the EAFRD).
When the time came to decide where Arrabidine would continue to be produced, entirely the traditional way, and in view of such a heritage with so much history to tell, Sofia decided to transform the old olive press into a new cellar, keeping the structure and the original architectural design of the building.
We are proud of being the House of Arrabidine, the only company producing the liqueur, entirely the traditional way, according to the original recipe and owner of its registered trademark.
THE CELLAR
The Cellar, for storage and ageing, is the nave by excellence. The architecture of the building naturally favours the storing and conservation of the spirituous beverages in the vats, barrels and bottles that rest here.
In here, one can find the original vats, where Arrabidine rests before being bottled. The existing underground reservoirs [used to store olives while at the olive press] work as an ageing cellar for some bottles of Arrabidine, which will only be marketed several years after being bottled.
THE PRODUCTION
Our production is artisanal, traditional. The whole process leads us to put into every bottle a good dose of dedication, respecting the recipes and adding value to an industry that is being reborn in the XXI century.
The used technology serves the purpose of the unarguable quality of our products, established by the analysis and tasting done by our biggest connoisseurs, given that our liqueurs and spirituous beverages are previously analysed by an oenologist before being distributed.
THE SHOP
The Cellar Shop, in addition to having our products for sale, acts as a platform for homemade gastronomic products and also for products from Quinta do Anjo. The selection of the products relies on the knowledge of the product and its manufacturing process, which enables our visitor to take along with him a fantastic experience.
A pleasant place to be, to have a chat and above all to get to know the best of what is done in Quinta do Anjo – a range of complementary products to our liqueurs and spirituous beverages.
